When did you first start using the internet and what was it like?
I decided to answer this question since so many Neocities users are young enough that internet was around in a big way since they were born. I started using the internet probably around 1998 (I was 8) when we got our first computer which was a Gateway PC. I remember it came in a cardboard box with a cow spotted pattern. Back then, there wasn't as many things to do online and dial-up internet was very slow so I only probably spent a half hour online here and there. I remember a "before time"; That is, before the internet became so pervasive in all of our lives, but that's another story! Perhaps I'll detail on all of this a little in the future in some kind of blog post, so check back~
When did you start making websites? What's your website history?:
Around 2001 so 22 years ago when I was 11? My first page was on a Neopets pet page. There was no way to upload images, you could only hotlink, and there was no way to have multiple pages beyond having multiple pet pages, so I ended up making a Geocities page. It started off as a really badly made general anime/"graphic design" fansite but after a year or so of it surprisingly growing, an internet friend offered to host my website on their personal domain so I had a lot more freedom! After a short while I decided I wanted my own domain and I ended up having a fairly successful (for a young teen) anime-themed graphic design and HTML help website that managed to get 100-600 unique hits a day.
Coding skills?: After about 2012 or so I moved on from web design to other hobbies so currently my knowledge of HTML has somewhat diminished and is definitely behind the times since I haven't made sites since then. But I guess that's why I'm on Neocities and relearning! At the time, I knew a fair amount of HTML and a little bit of PHP and MySQL.
Hobbies?: Baking, cooking, dressing up in EGL/Jfashion/vintage clothing, drawing, sewing, cosplay, hiking, biking, skiing, camping, looking through old photos of EGL fashion and old websites on the Wayback archive.
